George Vancouver
Explorer/shrub(1994)
A beautiful, very floriferous shrub rose released from Agriculture Canada's Explorer Series. Why this rose is not grown more is a mystery to us. Great for garden beds or a low hedge! Small enough to put into large pots or planters also. George Vancouver reblooms very well bearing semi-double (24 petals) of velvety deep red blossoms that will brighten up any garden. The blooms are 2.5" large and are born in clusters of up to 6. Foliage is glossy mid green and has good resistance to blackspot & mildew. The bush is neat and tidy growing around 3' x 3.5' wide and high. Hardy to Zone 3 on it's own roots.Slightly fragrant.
parentage: a cross between R Kordesii and L83 X complex line originating from "Champlain, R. Kordesii, Red Dawn, Suzanne, New Dawn, R. Laxa and R. spinosissima".
