J.P Connell
Explorer/shrub(1987)
It's very hard to produce(breed) hardy roses but it's even harder to produce yellow ones mainly because most yellow parent plants orginate from non hardy stock, so it's a long complex procedure of many, many crosses to get to there. In 1987 Agriculture Candada did when they produced J.P. Connell. A shrub rose that produces large, hybrid tea like blooms in small clusters of 3-6. Lemon yellow buds have high centres that open into creamy yellow blooms revealing deep golden centers. Light fragrance. Plant foliage has moderate resistance to blackspot considered good as most yellow roses are enately prone to the disease! Some garden sulfer is needed to keep it good & healthy. Plant grows up to 5' tall and 3.5' wide. Repeats well after established. Crown hardy to zone 3. Some dieback in our zone 5.
