| Summer Wine® (Ninebark) Physocarpus opulifolious |
Summer Wine® Physocarpus opulifolious Ninebark SUMMER WINE® combines the fine texture and compact branching of Physocarpus ‘Nana’ with the dark foliage of Physocarpus Diabolo®. Most say it is a very good improvement over Diabolo®. and it is smaller than other ninebarks it fits into small garden themes. It's wine coloured foliage is a great contrast in any garden and it's pink blooms are a wonderful contrast to the purple foliage. Fast growing and has few insect or disease problems. Pruning and other maintenance is rarely needed. Use it as a bold accent or part of a mixed border. SUMMER WINE may even be cut for use in arrangements. This is a trouble-free addition to either the home or commercial landscape. Features: Soft pink to white blooms appear in late spring (early -mid June), the dark foliage is a great contrast to lighter colors. Bark on older plants peels into papery-like strips. It has beautiful black fruit in the fall. * Ninebarks are drought tolerant when established. Fall colour is very attractive. Overall wonderfull landscape plant anyway you look at it! note *Even drought tolerant plants will need water for the first season while they get established. After this, little or no supplemental water will be necessary when planted in the ground. No plant is truly drought tolerant in a container; water is necessary for all plants in containers. Hardy to zone 3. Place in full sun for best colour. Good in groupings and masses, perennial and shrub borders. Summer Wine makes great cut flower material both for the blooms and foliage. Growing Tips Adaptable to difficult situations. Withstands acidic and alkaline soils. Best if pruned immediately after blooming. Buds set the summer prior to blooming. Medium moisture is best but can tolerate dry conditions once established. Sold on it's own roots 1 gal. pot $12.95 NOTE: sold only within Canada and at the nursery |
