| The Fairy shrub rose |
| The blooms of The Fairy are small 1",pink, double blooms held in large clusters. The roses open at different times so you'll get within a cluster several shades of pink. Some place this rose in both the polyantha and Patio rose category. We tend to think it a shrub rose. This rose is used a lot for breeding hardy shrub roses. The Fairy repeats bloom but you can increase this by regular deadheading and minimum pruning. It blooms rather late into the fall which can make for winter kill the next spring. Very floriferous rose that keeps an upright, arching habit. only grows 2.5' tall and 3' wide. Very thorny canes make pruning her extremely hazardous. Shiny, deep green foliage adds much charm to the bush. In zones 4 to 5a this rose can die back to the ground so own root plants are more beneficial. In late fall mounding with earth will help the amount of winter kill substantially. A wonderful shrub rose that has been around for some time and has stood the test of time. Every garden should have one. Sold as "own root" plants |
